11/30/08 Issue.03 Updates Well I wanted to release issue.03 online today, but I have had a few design setbacks due to getting a real job at the de Young Fine Arts Museum in San Francisco as a graphic designer. But real jobs pay the bills, and allow me the ability to fund my personal projects such as Roll Zine. The good news is that I am about 90% complete with issue.03 and it will be done in the next week or so. The image below is the poster from issue.03 featuring Tommy Boy, and I will be distributing these free at the Valo 2.5 premiere in San Francisco.
Also issue.03 related is the contribution of Aarin Gates's mini proflie courtesy of her photo submissions. She was left out of the preview by mistake, but this edit is a little taste of her talent. As Tommy Boy would say: she can negative makio way better than all those hoe-made buster-ass chumps. I say check the back torque too. This girl is probably better than you.
11/27/08 Shredit in San Francisco This edit is a week in the life of yours truly, also featuring Joey Ihara (damn he is so ill), JayG (the esthetic mathematician blader), & ThomasMcGovern (the tie-dye hill warrior) – Kevin Yee

Yes I am intentionally standing by a ladder in a garden with my skates on.
The crazy lady next door asked me too. That's Berkeley for you.
09/04/08 Blade Comedy Jam Online Feature A visual slideshow of both the San Francisco and San Diego Blade Comedy Jam. Both competitions were successful, and I felt priviledged to be a part of such strong rollerblading communities. A shout-out to Tommy Bistro for organizing and promoting absurdity in rollerblading.
08/22/08 Issue.02 official release While currently available online, limited printed copies will be available at the Blade Comedy Jam on August 30th in San Diego. However, an official launch will be held at my place on September 20, 2008. See flyer for details.

08/15/08 Issue.02 update Where is it? Well it's really close to completion. Here are a few images from the Tuesday Night Skate spreads.
07/12/08 Ohio Re-visited! The best part of returning to your former stomping ground is the level of comfort in executing tricks. While my trip back to Ohio was mainly for non-skating purposes, I did managed to pull a few productive moments of skating with Roll Zine's very own Brent Hopkins. We had not skated together since shooting for issue .01, and we were able to capture some solid photos for issue 03 which will be released on the shoulders of the prolonged deadlines of issue 02. I managed to pull a few tricks for this online update while struggling with the cruel reality of Ohio's humid summer weather. It made me realize how fortunate I am to live in the Bay Area where skate season is literally 365 days a year.
06/14/08 UC Berkeley Summer Session With school out for the summer, the decrease of security and pedestrian traffic opens up the entire campus for skating. UC Berkeley has so much to skate it's hard to really focus on what section of the large campus to hit first. Jon was juiced on laying some solid tricks on Haas for photos, and we filmed some lines across the street for an upcoming East Bay edit.
05/31/08 Oakland Sessions No matter the stigma Oakland receives as being a dangerous city, it is still one of the most exciting and innovative areas to skate in the Bay Area. My lack of knowledge in East Bay skatespots may undermine my belief that Oakland is a relatively unique and ripe with new skate opportunities. Just like its San Francisco counterpart, the East Bay continues to reveal new and old skate spots for those seeking creative outlets. Progression develops not only from technicality but also from innovation. The merger of talent and diversity of style resulted in rewarding sessions for the other city by the bay.

05/25/08 First look at the San Jose Skatepark I checked out the mammoth San Jose Skatepark that opened last month. Supposedly the largest skatepark in California. I find it to be comparable to Sacramento's concrete mass. The bowls are fun, the street section good, but it needs a bit more flow between sections of the park. Everything is clearly segregated into big, bigger, and gigantic. The large kidney pool reminds me a lot of the Skatopia barn in Meigs county. Even backside royale on what might be 14-15 foot pool coping can be intimidating. The full pipe capsules remind me of my former stomping ground — Athens, Ohio. Photo by Mai Tran.

04/02/08 Roll Zine officially online Marks an official launch of Roll Zine as a functional and updatable website. It's previous incarnations were only meant to be presentations in a gallery setting as part of my graphic design thesis at Ohio University in May of 2007. The project followed me to Berkeley, California and has evolved into an ongoing publication and open forum for showcasing rollerblading. Issue 2 is rapidly approaching. Explore to find more.
